Bremen Citizen Participation

Bremen Citizen Participation

A livable, stress-free, clean city in which people are the main focus – that is the goal of the city of Bremen. And traffic plays a central role in this – whether by bike, public transport or on foot – the inhabitants should be able to get from A to B safely, quickly and sustainably. For this reason, Bremen adopted a traffic development plan (VEP) through 2025 back in 2014. 40 ideas for concrete measures were developed, which the Bremen residents were able to evaluate online. In total, the opinions of more than 7,700 people were included in the decision-making process. The measures are divided into four categories that ensure a more livable Bremen: Mobility in the city center: expansion of the tram network, more walking and bike paths on bridges over the Weser river; Buses and trains: Reduced fares, 5-minute frequency for all types of public transport, more bus connections between city districts; Connection between the city and the region: better connection of public transportation to bike paths, faster regional transport; Neighborhoods: more green spaces, seating, and bike parking. The resulting new transportation development plan for Bremen will be published soon. Stay tuned!
